  • Annual General Meeting and High Peak Railway talks
    11:00 -13:00
    10/05/2025
Derby Road, Belper, Derbyshire, DE56 1UU

The Annual General Meeting itself is just a small part of our event at Strutts on 10 May. The DAS Library will be open for browsing from 10.00am so if you are not a regular user of the library please do drop in and browse our amazing collection of books and journals relevant to the history and archaeology of the county.

The formal business of the AGM will be followed by two talks from our members, both of them linked to the Cromford & High Peak Railway.

Minninglow Lime Kiln and Brick Kiln – Richard and Angela Knisely-Marpole

Richard and Angela are cultural heritage volunteers with the Peak District National Park. One of the sites that that they support is the former quarry and brickworks alongside the High Peak Trail at Minninglow. A lime kiln on the site has recently been restored with a grant from the Farming in Protected Landscapes scheme.

Cromford & High Peak Railway Drawings – Anne Allcock

The DAS recently received a donation of 60 historic engineering drawings relating to the Cromford & High Peak Railway. These were rescued from derelict railway workshops alongside the Cromford Canal after closure of the railway in the 1960s. They mainly date from the 1850s. Most are drawings for component parts to repair railway equipment but there are also civil engineering plans relating to the inclines on the railway. Ian Mitchell and Trevor Griffin have been studying the drawings to understand their significance, and Anne will present some preliminary conclusions.

A selection of the drawings will be on view in the DAS Library, which will be open from 10.00am.
